What is the MCC Mennonite Relief Sale?

Lauris Schrag of Moundridge talks with Tom and Jane Washburn of Newton in the Kansas Crafts area

Started well over 30 years ago, the Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale has been an annual event of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a relief organization formed in 1920.  Over 70 Mennonite, Brethren in Christ, and Amish congregations in Kansas, and their friends, donate their gifts and services for this annual festival and benefit auction.  All proceeds from the sale are used to provide for material needs and community development in North America and across the world in the name of Christ.

Through participation in the Mennonite Relief Sale, we share our resources to mend a broken world.  We send food to satisfy hunger, clothing to warm the cold, and compassionate people to help build self esteem and community.  Bulldozer: Mennonites At Work

What fun things are there to do at the sale?

A new attraction at the 2005 sale, Mini Golf provided some outdoor fun

Whatever your interests, the MCC Relief Sale probably has something for you! Come for the auctions and pick from a rainbow of useful (and decorative) household items, many hand crafted, admire and buy some of the hundreds of beautifully hand-made quilts, eat and take home delicious foods including traditional German and Russian dishes, pick up some Bulldozer: Mennonites At Work plants (house, perennials, grasses, berries, trees), and take home lovely craft items or supplies. Also, have your children bring their pennies and help fill up a big stock tank! Don't forget to toss in your spare change as well.

Take a look at the Schedule of Events and Relief Sale Directory/Map.

Volunteer for this or future MCC Relief Sales. All the workers are volunteers, and you can help by helping park cars, serving food, selling crafts, child care, and in many other ways. If you or your church can help for several hours or part of a day, call a relief sale contact person in one of the sponsoring churches.
